About the Artist

 

     

In 1998, Ken Northup returned to painting after a long hiatus devoted to work and family. He prefers traditional realism with oils being his first choice of media.

 

In January of 1999, he began formal studies of both painting and drawing at the Old Church Cultural Center School of Art in Demarest, New Jersey, primarily with Bob Glaisek. Since relocating to Massachusetts in 2000, he has studied with Michael Dowling, Teri Malo and Rosetta Nasisi at the Danforth Museum School of Art in Framingham, MA.

 

He has also participated in workshops on oil painting with Bill Davis, Joseph McGurl, Arnold Desmarais, Paul Schulenburg and Robert Douglas Hunter. Ken has also taken classes in computer graphics and oil painting at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD).

His work has been accepted for juried exhibitions, including

  • Attleboro Museum’s “Small Works”

  • Duxbury Museum’s “Winter Juried Show”

  • Cape Cod Art Association’s “New England and National Exhibition”

  • Danforth Museum of Art Member Exhibit

 

Ken’s works hang on the walls of homes throughout the United States and in Europe.

 

His work has been mentioned favorably in American Art Collectors Magazine,  the Boston Globe and the Attleboro Sun Chronicle.

 

Ken is a member of the Copley Society of Art, an Artist Member, and formerly on the Board of Directors at the Cape Cod Art Association, and an Artist Member of the Wellesley Society of Artists.
